Vitiligo: a Call for Paradigm Shift Towards Comprehensive Patient Care

This paper presents a transformative framework for vitiligo care, addressing its psychological, physiological, and social impacts. It highlights the high prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities, autoimmune links, and social stigma while emphasizing the need for equitable AI diagnostics, shifting from the Fitzpatrick Skin Phototype to the Monk Skin Tone Scale for better inclusivity. The proposed five-pillar model integrates routine mental health screening, multidisciplinary care, balanced research priorities, clinician training, and AI-driven solutions to align with WHO’s holistic health definition and reduce global disparities in vitiligo management.
